Frequently asked questions

Why does "and" appear in some written numbers?

British English places "and" before the final part below a hundred: two hundred and forty-one. American English usually omits it. Both parse to the same value, and this converter accepts either.

What about hyphens?

Compound numbers from twenty-one to ninety-nine take a hyphen — forty-two, not forty two. It is conventional rather than semantic, so the converter reads both forms.
