Subtitle Sync & Shifter

Fix out-of-sync subtitles by shifting every cue, or stretching them for a frame-rate change.

Out-of-sync subtitles have two different causes. A constant offset means every cue is early or late by the same amount and needs shifting. Drift that grows through the film means the subtitles were timed for a different frame rate, and needs the timings stretched by a speed factor.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know whether to shift or stretch?

Check the first and last lines. If both are out by the same amount, shift. If the first is nearly right and the last is out by many seconds, the frame rate differs and you need to stretch — start with 1.0427 or 0.9590, which cover the 23.976 and 25 fps mismatch.
