Subtitles to Plain Text

Turn an SRT, VTT or ASS subtitle file into a clean transcript.

This turns a subtitle file into a readable transcript. SRT, WebVTT and ASS/SSA are all understood, including their different ways of marking time and styling. Cue numbers, timestamps and inline formatting tags are removed, and captions that were split across cards mid-sentence are re-joined — which is the difference between a transcript you can read and a list of fragments.

Frequently asked questions

Which subtitle formats work?

SubRip (.srt), WebVTT (.vtt) and Advanced SubStation Alpha (.ass/.ssa). Each marks time differently and ASS carries styling codes inline, all of which are handled.

Why is the transcript not one line per caption?

Because captions break at whatever fits on screen, not at sentence ends. The flowing mode re-joins them and breaks at real punctuation instead. Choose "one caption per line" if you want the original cue boundaries.
