CAGR Calculator

Compound annual growth rate between two values, with the year-by-year path.

CAGR is the constant annual rate that would take a starting value to an ending value over a period, smoothing out the volatility in between. It is calculated as the ending value divided by the starting value, raised to the power of one over the number of years, minus one.

Frequently asked questions

Why is CAGR lower than the simple average?

Because compounding means each year builds on the last. A 50% gain followed by a 50% loss leaves you down 25%, not flat — the simple average says 0%, while CAGR correctly reports about −13% a year.
