Discount Calculator

Work out sale prices, stacked discounts and how much you actually save.

To calculate a discount, enter the original price and the percentage off. If a second "extra percent off" applies, it is calculated on the already-reduced price, which is how retailers actually stack offers — the combined saving is always less than adding the two percentages.

Frequently asked questions

How do I combine two discounts?

Multiply, do not add. A 20% discount followed by a further 10% is not 30% — it is 0.8 × 0.9 = 0.72, so 28% off. Stacked discounts always total less than their sum.

What does the original price mean in a sale?

Legally it must be a price genuinely charged for a meaningful period, though enforcement varies. A "was" price that was never really charged is a pricing practice regulators in the UK and EU have repeatedly acted against.
