Frequently asked questions

Does this read the printed text on a card?

No — it reads the QR code on the card, not the printed lettering. Cards that carry a QR code almost always encode a full vCard behind it, which is far more reliable than character recognition on a photograph.

Will the .vcf import into my phone?

Yes. The file is written as vCard 3.0, which iOS, Android, Outlook and Google Contacts all accept. Escaped characters and folded long lines are normalised on the way out, so a card that displayed oddly elsewhere imports cleanly.

What if the code is not a vCard?

It still decodes, and you are told what it actually is — many cards encode just a website or a LinkedIn link. The .vcf download only appears when there is a genuine contact card to save.
