Are these real people?

No. Names are drawn from common given-name and surname lists and paired at random, so any resemblance to a specific individual is coincidental.

Why use fake profiles instead of real data?

Using real personal data in development or demos creates an unnecessary privacy exposure and, under GDPR and similar laws, a processing obligation you do not need. Synthetic profiles carry neither.
