Paste Image and Download — Clipboard to PNG, JPG or WebP

A screenshot taken to the clipboard is raw pixel data, not a file — there is no format, no compression and no name attached to it. Something has to encode it before it can be saved, which is what Print Screen on Windows and ⌃⌘⇧4 on a Mac leave you needing. Pasting here does that encode and hands you the file.

No. The clipboard data is decoded, drawn to a canvas and encoded entirely inside this page using your browser's own image encoder. Nothing is sent over the network, which is also why there is no file-size limit and why it works offline once the page has loaded.

The clipboard has to actually hold an image. Copying a file in the file manager puts a file reference on the clipboard rather than pixels in some browsers, and copying an image from a web page sometimes puts only a link there. Use the "Paste from clipboard" button, which asks the browser for the clipboard contents directly, or drag the file onto the page instead.

PNG for screenshots of text and UI — it is lossless, so the type stays crisp, and it keeps transparency. JPG or WebP for photographs, where lossless compression buys you nothing and costs several times the file size. WebP is the best default when the file is going on the web, and AVIF is smaller still if you do not need older Safari.

Paste them one after another — each one is added to the list rather than replacing the last, and they all convert with the same settings. A single image downloads as a file; several download together as a ZIP, each numbered after the name you set.

A clipboard bitmap is uncompressed, so the size you end up with is decided entirely by the format you encode to, not by anything the original file did. Re-encoding a photograph-heavy screenshot as PNG can easily be several megabytes; switching to WebP or JPG at 85% typically cuts it by 80% or more with no visible difference on screen.
