Heart Rate Zone Calculator

Calculate your training zones from maximum and resting heart rate.

To calculate heart rate training zones, enter your age and resting heart rate. Zones are derived with the Karvonen heart-rate-reserve method, which accounts for your fitness level rather than using a flat percentage of maximum heart rate.

Tanaka (208 − 0.7 × age) fits observed data better than the older 220 − age, especially for people over 40 where the classic formula underestimates. Both are population averages — an individual can be 10–20 bpm either side.
