How does glitch text work?

By stacking Unicode combining diacritical marks on each character. Each mark is meant to sit above or below a letter, and stacking dozens of them makes the text bleed vertically beyond its line — the effect known as Zalgo.

Will glitch text break my page?

It can. Combining marks overflow their line box, so they overlap surrounding text, and some older systems slow noticeably when rendering hundreds of them on one character. Screen readers announce every mark, which makes it unusable to listen to.
