About converting BASE36 to HEX

Base 36 uses every digit and letter, producing the shortest representation that is still safe in a URL without escaping. Hex is base 16 and maps exactly four bits per digit, which is why one byte is always two hex digits and why colours, memory addresses and hashes are written this way. As a worked example, 73 equals 255 in decimal and therefore FF in hexadecimal.
