Geolocation maps an address block to wherever its operator registered it, which is often a regional office rather than your street. Mobile networks route thousands of subscribers through a handful of gateways, and a VPN deliberately reports its exit server. The autonomous system and registry data on this page are exact; the city is the only part that is a guess.

An autonomous system number identifies the network that announces your address to the rest of the internet — usually your ISP. It is the most reliable thing on this page, because it comes from the routing table itself. Sites use it to tell a home broadband customer from a datacentre, which is how VPN blocking mostly works.

It shows you the signals, not a verdict. A timezone that disagrees with the IP country, a hosting network rather than a consumer ISP, and a WebRTC address that differs from your routed one are the three cheap checks a website runs. Any one of them can fire on an honest connection, which is exactly why they are listed separately rather than totalled into a score.

WebRTC gathers every address your machine can be reached on so that peer connections work. For years that handed sites the real address of anyone behind a VPN. Browsers now replace local addresses with mDNS names by default, so a clean result usually means the browser is doing its job — but a public address that differs from your routed one is a genuine leak.

Many VPNs tunnel IPv4 and quietly ignore IPv6. If both stacks work and only one address changes when you connect, every IPv6-capable site sees your real address regardless of the tunnel. That is why both are probed separately here.

Blocklists index the address, not you, and on a residential connection it is usually a neighbour on the same dynamic pool or an infected device on your network. Each list publishes a delisting form; use the abuse contact from the registry record if the address is one you actually control.

Under GDPR it is treated as personal data, and every server you connect to sees it because that is how replies are routed. On its own it identifies an ISP and an approximate area, not a person — connecting it to a name needs subscriber records only the ISP holds.

You can run the same report on any public address using the box at the top. What comes back is network ownership, not identity: the ISP, the registered block, the abuse contact and an approximate location. Nothing here reveals who is using the address.
