Test Audio Generator — Tones, Noise & Silence

Generate WAV test audio: sine, square, sweep, noise or silence at any rate, depth and duration.

A test audio generator produces WAV files containing a sine, square, sawtooth or triangle tone, a frequency sweep, white noise or pure silence. Set the duration, frequency, sample rate, bit depth, channel count and amplitude, and the file is encoded sample by sample in your browser.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my tone click at the start?

Because the waveform begins mid-cycle at full amplitude. Set a fade of 10–20 ms and the click disappears — that is what the fade control is for.

What sample rate should I pick?

A rate must be at least twice the highest frequency you want to represent, which is the Nyquist limit. 44.1 kHz covers human hearing; 48 kHz is the standard for video; anything higher only matters for studio processing.

Why generate silence?

A silent file of a known length is the cleanest way to test duration handling, padding, concatenation and playback timing without any audio content confusing the result.
