File Hash & Checksum Calculator

Compute SHA-256, SHA-384, SHA-512 or SHA-1 for any file and verify it against a checksum.

A file checksum is a fixed-length fingerprint of the file's exact bytes. Comparing it to the value a publisher listed proves the download arrived complete and unaltered. This calculator hashes files with SHA-256, SHA-384, SHA-512 or SHA-1 in your browser and can verify against a checksum you paste.

Frequently asked questions

What does a mismatch mean?

The file is not the one the checksum was published for. Most often it is an incomplete download or a different release version. It can also mean the file was modified in transit — so do not run an installer whose checksum fails.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Hashing happens through the browser's WebCrypto API on your own device. That is also why there is no size limit beyond your available memory.

How to use the file hash & checksum calculator

  1. 1Select your files — the file stays on your device and is never uploaded.
  2. 2Choose the algorithm.
  3. 3Enter or paste your expected checksum.
  4. 4Press Run, then download the result when it is ready.
