Colour Palette Generator

Build harmonious palettes — complementary, triadic, analogous and monochromatic.

To generate a colour palette, pick a base colour and a harmony rule. Complementary rotates the hue 180 degrees for maximum contrast, analogous stays within 30 degrees for a calm scheme, and triadic spaces three hues evenly for balanced variety.

Frequently asked questions

How many colours should a palette have?

Fewer than most palettes contain. One primary, one accent and a neutral scale covers most interfaces; every additional hue is another decision on every screen. Depth usually comes from shades of few hues rather than many hues.

Why do my palette colours look wrong together?

Most often unequal lightness. Two colours of the same hue family but very different perceived brightness fight each other. Generating shades in a perceptual space such as OKLCH keeps steps visually even in a way HSL does not.
