It is a first draft: a captioning model can describe what is visible but cannot know why the image is on your page, which is the part good alt text has to convey.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use the output as-is?

Edit it first. The model describes what is visible, which is often not what matters — the same photograph needs different alt text in a news article, a product listing and a gallery. Treat it as a starting sentence that saves you the blank page.

What about decorative images?

Use `alt=""`. An empty alt attribute tells a screen reader to skip the image, which is correct for anything purely decorative. Omitting the attribute entirely is different and worse — many screen readers then read out the filename.
