# Scan to PDF — Photograph a Document With Your Camera

> Use your camera to capture pages and turn them into a clean, multi-page PDF.

To scan a document without a scanner, start your camera, frame the page inside the guide and capture it. Each shot is enhanced as it is taken — the paper is whitened against the actual light in the room and the text deepened, which is what turns a phone photo into something that reads as a scan. Reorder, rotate or discard pages, then build a multi-page PDF. The camera feed never leaves the tab and no frame is uploaded, which is the difference from every scanner app that wants an account.

## FAQ

### Why do my photos look so much better than the raw camera shot?

Because the enhancement estimates the paper's white point from the brightest part of the frame and rescales towards it. That removes the yellow cast of indoor lighting, which a fixed brightness curve cannot do — every room is a different colour.

### The camera will not start.

Camera access needs your permission and a secure context, so it works on https and on localhost but not over plain http. If you refused the prompt, re-allow it from the icon in the address bar. On a desktop with no webcam, use "Add photos" to bring in pictures taken elsewhere — they get the same enhancement.

### Which enhancement should I use?

Document for ordinary printed pages. Greyscale when the page has photographs or shading you want to keep. High contrast for faint pencil, a bad photocopy or a receipt on thermal paper.

### Can I make the scan searchable?

Yes — build the PDF here, then run it through OCR PDF. That adds an invisible text layer over these pages so the document becomes searchable without changing how it looks.

### How do I get the straightest result?

Shoot square-on rather than at an angle, fill the dashed guide with the page, and avoid a shadow falling across it. Perspective correction is not applied, so a photo taken at 30 degrees stays at 30 degrees.
