To convert MP3 to M4A, add the file and it is re-encoded to AAC inside an MP4 container using ffmpeg compiled to WebAssembly, running in your browser. AAC is a more efficient codec than MP3, so the result is usually smaller at comparable quality. Note that this is a re-encode, not a re-wrap — going from one lossy format to another always loses a little.

### Will quality improve?

No. Converting between two lossy formats can only lose information — the detail MP3 discarded is gone and AAC cannot invent it. Convert for compatibility or file size, never for quality.
