# Break-Even Point Calculator

> Find how many units you must sell to cover your costs.

To find your break-even point, enter your fixed costs, selling price and variable cost per unit. The difference between price and variable cost is the contribution margin, and dividing fixed costs by it gives the number of units needed to cover everything.

## FAQ

### What counts as a fixed cost?

Anything you pay regardless of how much you sell — rent, salaries, insurance, software subscriptions. Variable costs scale with each unit: materials, shipping, payment fees. Misclassifying one moves the break-even point substantially.

### Why is contribution margin the key number?

Because it is what each sale contributes toward covering fixed costs. Break-even is simply fixed costs divided by contribution per unit — so raising price or cutting unit cost moves the point far faster than selling more.
